At 36 years old, I found myself in a new city, three small children and a failing marriage. Everything I knew or thought I knew, wasn’t working. I was always told my entire life to stick it out no matter what and that God did not condone divorce.
Unfortunately, my marriage did end in divorce. I had a very demanding job and three young children who now needed me more than ever. I remember crying out to God, “How in the world am I going to do this thing called life now?”
My fears escalated. Were my children going to become a statistic; led astray by the world and full of hate and anger because they were now basically fatherless children? So many questions. However, through the tears and the stress I heard God’s voice, "I’ve got you, my child! I promise never to forsake you! You will need for nothing. Just give yourself and your babies completely to me!" That’s exactly what I did! It wasn’t easy!
But God gave me a strength I never knew was possible! Not once did I miss a field trip, a recital, a basketball game, soccer game, or any other game. Whatever my children were involved in, I was there! My work never suffered. I was on the air every night and made every speaking engagement or event I had to emcee. God did have me! And, in His time He brought a positive male role model into my children’s lives and a best friend and amazing Godly husband into mine! Now, I have this absolutely beautiful, blended family! God took away my doubts and fears and showed me what He could do by listening and being obedient!
My three babies are now grown and almost grown. They did not become a statistic! They are thriving! My oldest is serving our country in the Air Force while also attending college. My middle son is attending college in Nashville and just starred in his first off Broadway musical. And my not so baby girl is now in high school and is shining bright! When I share my story with other single moms, I always say “but God!” My circumstances seemed bleak…but God stepped in!
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
