I did not know that I was being followed home from the store. When I got out of my car and headed toward my house, a man grabbed me from behind and led me to a dark side of the house. He proceeded to rifle through my purse. In those terrifying moments, I remember saying to him, “Jesus loves you.” He replied, “Shut up you talk too much.” Oddly, I remember thinking to myself, “I’ve heard that before.”
He did not know me, and I did not know what he was about to do to me. He finished with my purse and said, “I want you to count to twenty. I am going to let you into your house, and I will walk away.”
He did what he said he would do. I remember being so grateful and thankful and hysterical all at the same time.
Five years later, we found a note left under that doormat. Here is what it said: “I don’t know if this is the same resident from 5 years ago when I made a very bad mistake, but if so, I want you to know how very sorry I am for the pain I caused. I’ll never forget you saying to me, ‘Jesus loves me’. It really changed my life. Please forgive me.”
The God of all mercy and Grace protected me that day. My body and soul were frozen in fear, but that man could not touch the Spirit of God in me who had something to say to him. I am so grateful!
God is my protector and my good shepherd. Psalm 91:2-3, This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
