The Calling - Chelsey Sayasane Sklopan

My mom surprised my sisters and me with a trip to New York City for Christmas when I was 16. We were so excited. This was our first flight and first trip to a big city. A lot of tours and sights were on the agenda and waking up early to watch the TODAY Show live was one of them.

I remember waking up hours before the sun and putting on two pairs of socks to make sure we stayed warm on the plaza. To be honest, I was dreading it. It was something my mom wanted to do, so my sisters and I mustered up the strength to get up and go. Little did I know my dreams would change on that December morning on Rockefeller Plaza.

I remember getting as close as I could to the window to watch how it all worked. From the cameras and lights to the anchors and photographers, I was hooked. The Lord instilled a dream in me that day.

I can remember walking back to the hotel thinking “I want to do that one day.” Here we are, 10 years later, and I am living my dream on a local level. Not because of my own talent or skill, but because The Lord has graciously given me one of the desires of my heart.

I always thought my job, this job, was my calling. But boy was I wrong. The Lord has been working in my heart the past few years to remind me that my one true calling is to Him. Not solely to my family or job, but to my relationship with Christ.

I learned that once I truly sought Him, He would direct my steps to where He sees fit. I fully trust God knows what is best for my little family. I am so grateful and humbled that God would allow me to have this passion for telling stories and showing the good in our community through Studio10 and FOX10 Midday. Never in my wildest dream did I think I would be here, but He did.

Listen to the call, friend. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. He has big things in store for you, your family, and your life. Dream big!
