Praying for Those in Authority and for the Government
Paul urged Timothy and the church to first pray for everyone, especially for kings and all those in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:2
A Model Prayer
Heavenly Father, I give thanks for our government.
I pray for all elected and appointed officials and government employees having authority over us.
Pour out your Spirit upon them and make your Word known to them,
so they will not forget the Lord our God and worship or follow other gods.
Let your hand be with them to keep them from evil, so they cause no pain
by perverting justice, showing partiality, or accepting bribes.
Let wisdom enter their hearts and let knowledge be pleasant to them.
Let discretion preserve them and understanding keep them
to deliver them from the way of evil and from evil men.
Make their hearts and ears attentive to Godly counsel
doing what is right in your sight
requiring them to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with you.
Being strong in the Lord's mighty power
putting on the full armor of God to stand against the schemes of the devil and
the killing dangers of pride and arrogance which you hate.
Cause there to be shaking in all areas
rooting out the unfaithful and cutting off the wicked.
Soften the hearts that are hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Bring to light what is hidden in darkness, and expose the secret aims of the hearts.
Let the upright dwell in our government
having faith in You so they will be upheld.
Cause them to walk securely in integrity, to live righteously, to be obedient concerning You
So that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives, in all godliness and holiness.
